Operating globally from headquarters in Copenhagen, Unafor designs, manufactures and installs security solutions for urban spaces. With increasing global urbanisation, the Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM) market is largely defined by risk-driven narratives and generic design. City planners and brand operators are faced with few choices that can mitigate the risk of vehicular attack whilst also helping improve the liveability of cities; or provide design solutions that augment and enhance brand real estate and retail experience. Competitors are typically generalists and product focused, with a ‘kits and sets’ approach broadly sharing the same expected brand attributes.
Serving powerful brands such as Apple and Gucci, Phoenix Studios’ strategy was to leverage Unafor’s strength as brand differentiator; an in-house, design-led customisation approach and service suite that offers added value services to premium retail brands. We repositioned Unafor as a brand specialist with a wider social and environmental objective on a mission to create ‘Urban Safety for Liveable Cities’. We understood the complexity of the stakeholder environment and created propositions and messaging to land the brand with city planners, security officers and brand directors.
We applied Danish design philosophy and focused on function, simplicity and nature to create a design system that puts the idea of safety and protection at its core. We created 'The Unafor System®' to simplify and illustrate the product proposition and show how a robust, safety–certified core underpins an adaptable and customisable counterpart that enables brands to use urban safety as a creative tool for premium retail spaces as well as provide protection for its staff, customers and property.
